Garmin was established in 1989 by an American engineer, Gary Burrell, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Min Kao, together. The two founders possess professional engineering background in aircraft and ship navigation as well as communications technology. They firmly believe that global positioning system (GPS) is an epochal technology revolution. Breakthrough products are integrated with the application of technology and bring huge benefits to consumers.

The small team established the foundation and started from Taiwan in 1989 and has more than 82 business locations in 34 countries in the world with more than 18,000 excellent employees now. We have offices in many countries in Asia and establish the biggest business division and main production center in Taiwan. At the moment, we have around 9,000 employees devoted to vertical integration for Garmin product development, sales, production, marketing, and customer service.

Over the past 30 years, Garmin has developed from a small star-up that only has a single product into a well-known global enterprise that handles products in multiple areas to innovate lifestyle. Our annual business profit is over than US$1 billion.
